I know everyone's heard about how bad the economy is right now. Every time you turn on the news, it's practically all the media is talking about (well, that and they're gushing over Obama, but that's an entirely different post!). The economy has also been hard on the publishing industry. Many authors I know are struggling right now. They've had their contracts canceled or delayed, their sales numbers are dreadful or they've had trouble obtaining new contracts for various other reasons. Publishers aren't taking the same risks that did at one time and authors are feeling the pinch. If you enjoy reading a certain author, please consider purchasing a copy of their books. A book is a relatively cheap form of entertainment and will last longer than a movie. They're a great escape from the demands of life and a great stress reliever through these recession woes. I just want to encourage everyone: if you've been thinking about picking up a book, this is the time to do it!
